Facilities and Directions

Commonwealth Opera of Western Massachusetts performs primarily in Northampton, Massachusetts, 20 miles north of Springfield and seven miles from Amherst, within a 2-mile radius of Smith College.

Our three main performance venues are two historic and beautifully renovated theaters— Academy of Music and the Calvin Theater, both in downtown Northampton—and the newly renovated Congdon Auditorium at the Northampton High School. All our performance spaces have the capacity for full stage sets and professional stage lighting.

Commonwealth Opera’s annual gala Guild concerts and other special events take place in a number of inviting locations including Sweeney Concert Hall at Smith College and the Garden House at Look Park in neighboring Florence.

All theaters offer comfortable seating, excellent acoustics, and wheelchair-accessibility. Please see Tickets for the seating chart for the current production.
