Eve Summer: Artistic Director

Eve Summer directs both theater and opera and recent credits include Così fan tutte for Commonwealth Opera, Extremities, The Woolgatherer, A Midsummer Night's Dream, The Complete Works of William Shakespeare (Abridged), Rich Orloff's Find Me a Primitive Man, Suor Angelica, Barbara Lindsay's Holy Hell, Two Gentlemen of Verona, The Merry Wives of Windsor, and the world premiere of Larry Bell's opera Holy Ghosts.

Ms. Summer has long been a devotee of writer Thomas Berger and with his permission wrote a play based on his novel Neighbors, which she produced and directed in the spring of 2007. At Opera Boston last season she assistant directed The Nose and The Bartered Bride and directed Little Red Riding Hood. Ms Summer was trained as a classical ballet dancer with the Kirov (Universal) Ballet and Boston Ballet where, as a young dancer, she performed extensively with the company. Ms. Summer went on to dance professionally, performing Corps de Ballet and Soloist roles with the Inland Pacific Ballet Company in Los Angles. Recent choreography credits include Romeo & Juliet, The Tempest, and Don Giovanni. Ms. Summer holds a degree in foreign languages (French, German, and Italian) and has written surtitle translations for Commonwealth Opera's Così fan tutte, Boston Opera Collaborative's productions of Don Giovanni, Gianni Schicchi, and Suor Angelica. Ms. Summer also serves as Managing Director for The Foundation for Modern Opera's annual The Shakespeare Concerts.

Commonwealth Opera
